We are in the process of getting Charity Commission approval to establish Save The High Street Ltd as a charity.
We initially considered having the organisation set up as a non-profit but given our goals and desire to involve the community, we felt that a charity would enable people to make donations and be more a part of the organisation itself.
That does however make it more arduous as the charity has to be approved by the Charity Commission before we can start taking donations. In the meantime, we have set up a limited company so we can progress with our efforts, including signing leases and talking to potential local businesses.
Our proposed “objects” – which outline what the charity’s goals, aims and objectives will be – are below.
(Proposed) Charity Objects
To promote the following, for the benefit of the general public, in particular but not exclusively in the Metropolitan Borough of Wandsworth:
- Industry, commerce, charity and social enterprise which:
- Relieves unemployment
- Advances community development, through or by encouraging and supporting innovation
- Learning for pleasure by people no longer in full time employment through the continued development of their individual capabilities, competencies, skills and understanding in subjects of educational value
- Advance the education and appreciation in relation to the arts and artistic crafts by:
- providing facilities, open to the public, to view and appreciate the arts and artistic crafts
- providing a place to hold cultural events
- Urban regeneration including by supporting:
- the advancement of education, training or retraining, particularly among unemployed people, and providing unemployed people with work experience:
- the provision of financial assistance, technical assistance or business advice or consultancy in order to provide training and employment opportunities for unemployed people in cases of financial or other charitable need through help: (i) in setting up their own business, or (ii) to existing businesses:
- The creation of training and employment opportunities by the provision of workspace and/or buildings for use on favourable terms
